Same with if you fit an Allard power pipe. this removes the egr valve totally will definately show up a fault as our BKD engines have an electrical plug on the EGR valve. apparently some tuning companies can remove the fault with a remap but not heard if VAG-COM/VCDS could do the same. there are a number of TDI site that whow how to do it don't bother. I removed 2 PD intake manifolds in the last 2 months. the build up is minimal and not worth the hassle of removing it. Especially on a BEW , you would have to remove and reinstall the EGr cooler which is PITA. And, considering there is boost pressure, once it begins to fail, a very small amount of oil will begin to ooze out the vent holes. The accumulation of the oil makes it look worse that what it really is.

Not much point to mentioning but no EGR runs better than a leaking EGR. Only downside is slower warmup, mostly apparent well below freezing.

I spent today cleaning. The amount of buildup was pretty bad. The EGR is done, I cleaned it with hand tools and alot of carb cleaner. I ran several cans of degreaser, carb cleaner, brake cleaner through the manifold. I scraped and scraped with various tools. May 2, 2012. #12. I think the fuel quality and driving style dictates when and if you ever need a cleaning. The BEW showed up just before the national transition to ultra low sulfur fuel too. Evidence points to that fuel change alone eliminating a lot of the clogging issues on older models.

There are many downsides, the worse one is the manifold gets completely clogged up with soot. The comment on the Alfa workshop is referring to when the EGR valve is stuck open.
